Pakistan: PIA suspend flight operations due to employees protest

PESHAWAR, 13 December: The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) employees have announced to suspend flight operations in and outside the country to record their protest against proposed privatisation of the institution.

The representatives of the employees union said while addressing a gathering of PIA employees at the Peshawar booking office on Saturday that the government should abstain from privatising the PIA and instead ban private airlines in the country. He said banning the private airlines will improve the performance of the PIA. Meanwhile, the pilots association has also announced support for the PIA employees protest.

The PIA employees throughout the country are protesting against proposed privatisation of the institution for the last six days. The commuters are facing many difficulties due to protest of the PIA employees.
