Colorado: Shooting in downtown Denver

Police are responding to an active shooter in the area of 15th Street and Wynkoop Street in downtown Denver. There are multiple victims being taken to area hospitals but only few details were immediately available.

The incident began just before 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday when police were called to a man armed with a gun in the 1500 block of Wynkoop Street. It was followed by gunfire and multiple victims were located, police said.

It was not immediately known how many people had been injured or what their conditions are, and police provided no information about the status of the shooter. Reporters at the scene saw at least three ambulances leaving the scene.

Much of the activity appeared to be centered at 1536 Wynkoop Street, which is home to the business center The Alliance Center, though it was unclear whether the shooting had taken place at that location. Police confirmed that the building was being searched.

“Area of 15th & Wynkoop is an active crime scene. Roads in area will be closed for extended period. Avoid area,” Denver Police said, adding that a press briefing would take place shortly.
