What Every Business Traveller Needs to Know About Frequent Flying

Frequent Flying for Corporate Travel: The Business Traveller’s Guide

Frequent Flyer Tips for Business Travellers and Corporate TravelIf you are involved in business travel, chances are you are in the air quite a lot. Frequent flying has its perks, such as racking up miles for travel loyalty rewards; but it also has its pitfalls, such as being away from home more often than not. These are some of our favourite tips for corporate travellers or travel management arrangers.

Tips for the Long Haul

If your business trip is going to take you across the ocean or from coast to coast, you need to prep for the trip. The top two tips are to stay hydrated and wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing. Cut out coffee and alcohol as these are dehydrating. In addition, purchase a bottle of water (after going through security!) to take with you on the plane – you will be glad you did. Here are a few more tips for the corporate traveller:

  • Choose the right seat. Aisle seats allow you to stretch out a bit; exit row and bulkhead seats give more leg room. Select a seat away from the bathrooms because people tend to congregate there.
  • Before you go, spend some quality time with your family – you will all be happier.
  • Allow yourself plenty of time to make your connections.
  • Bring some healthy snacks: almonds, apple, orange, granola and protein bar.
  • Bring a neck pillow. This will support your head much better and allow you to rest on the flight.
  • Do not drink alcohol on the flight; this may actually disturb any rest you need.
  • Get up and move around the plane as much as possible.
Packing 101

For the business traveller, it is imperative to pack light. Maximizing space will maximize time and help you manage your travel much easier. Carry your luggage on the plane rather than check it; you will not waste time waiting at the baggage claim area.

  • Use one color palette for your clothing; shirts and suits that blend and coordinate will save on the number of pieces you need to bring.
  • Keep a bag at the ready; sometimes duty calls when we least expect it. Having a bag ready to go can save you time and stress.
  • Plan to do laundry if you are gone for an extended period; your business travel advisor will help you choose a hotel with laundry services
  • Use wrinkle free clothing – again, a time saver.
  • Fill shoes with socks, underwear and toiletries to maximize space.
Passing Time in the Air

Long haul flights lend themselves to several activities: rest, reading and entertainment. If you are a light sleeper you may want to bring a good pair of headphones; they will block some noise. Also bring an eye mask to block out light. And, use your neck pillow.

Reading is a good way to pass the time. Load your tablet with the latest best sellers and be ready to read to your heart’s content.

Many long haul flights offer movies, music and television. Plug in your headphones and enjoy.

Corporate travel management begins the moment you book your flight and flows through how you eat, drink and pack. Business travellers can find frequent flying enjoyable as long as they’re comfortable and make the most of it. With these tips, you will be energized and ready to conduct your business after you land.
