Following deadly flooding caused by Typhoon Sarika, the Philippines brace for another blow by Super Typhoon Haima into Thursday.
Haima, referred to as Lawin in the Philippines, quickly strengthened over the weekend, reaching typhoon status on Sunday morning, local time.
Haima continued to strengthen early this week reaching super typhoon status on Tuesday afternoon. Haima reached peak strength Tuesday night with sustained winds of 269 km/h (167 mph) equal to a Category 5 hurricane in the Atlantic Ocean.
Haima has since weakened to the equivalent of a Category 4 hurricane, but residents should not let their guard down.
