The Schaerbeek area of Brussels is reportedly on lockdown with a police operation underway.
Several deployments have taken place in the vicinity of Liedts Square, according to Brussels Nord police, as reported by 7Sur7.
A number of streets have been sealed off and people have been escorted back to their homes by police, according to RTL Info.
Four tram lines halted services for some time, with all but one now having resumed operations, according to Brussels transport operator STIB – MIVB.
The Brussels prosecutor’s office has said no more information on the operation will be given tonight. A press briefing on the matter will be held Tuesday at 11am.
It’s been speculated, however, that the operation is related to a terrorism investigation. Political journalist Thomas Gadisseux tweeted that significant resources have been deployed as part of an anti-terrorist operation which has been ongoing since the start of the day.
