The U.S. Embassy in France informs U.S. citizens that drivers from the VTC Network Companies (such as Uber and other “mini cab” services) have announced the intent to strike on Monday, January 16, 2017 in and around Paris.  Unions representing the drivers have stated that they will try to block main roads around Place de la Bastille, and potentially, in and out of Paris to both Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports.  It is not yet certain when or if these protests will take place, however, if they do, they may impact citizens’ ability to move around Paris by car or reach the airports by road.

Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.  Avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place and exercise caution when in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
