A car plowed into a crowd Thursday in New York’s Times Square during the bustling lunch hour. At least one person was killed and about two dozen others were injured.
Of the 22 people injured in the crash, four are in critical condition but are expected to survive, New York fire department Commissioner Daniel Nigro said.
Authorities said an 18-year-old woman was killed, and her 13-year-old sister was injured after the red Honda Accord sped onto a sidewalk.
The driver is 26-year-old Richard Rojas, New York Police Commissioner James O’Neill said. Rojas had been arrested twice on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, O’Neill said.
Police said they don’t think Rojas’ car was being pursued when it drove up on a sidewalk shortly before noon.
