Greek Islands You Need To Know!

March 10, 2021 | Featured Destinations

Did you know that there are 6,000 islands and islets scattered throughout the Aegean and Ionian Seas and that only 227 of those islands are inhabited?  Well here are a few islands to consider when thinking about your next getaway to Greece:

Kefalonia is not only the largest island in the Ionian Seas, but it is one of the most beautiful .   It is famous for its:

  • beaches -  at least 36!   Be sure to visit Myrtos, Antisamos, Lourdas and Skala.
  • landscape – it is a mountainous island (hike Ainos to capture stunning views) and it has spectacular caves like Melissani and Droggarati.
  • And of course it has delicious food - the island produces its own yellow cheese, feta cheese, olive oil, honey, local meats and home to traditional family recipes, such as a pie filled with salted cod, skordalia and tsigaridia.

FYI - you can fly from Athens to the island.

Kea Island, also known as Tzia, is not well known by tourists. This alone makes the island more attractive as it remains genuine for those seeking a relaxing holiday and an excellent choice for those who want to experience Greece like a local.
This Cycladic Paradise has exceptional beaches and magnificent landscapes. Kea is a hiker’s paradise with numbered routes that take you through a variety of landscapes to remote coves and ruins of ancient cities.
Perfect location for a wellness getaway.

FYI - this island is accessible by ferry from Athens.  There is no airport.

Known as the "rocky" island, Folegandros is the perfect place to unwind!  It is a small 32-square km island with only 3 villages.  Traffic is limited if not closed in some villages to cars and motorcycles.
It's a great island if you wish to immerse with the locals and experience slow travel.
Be sure to hike to the church of Panagia.  The sunsets are spectacular.

FYI - this island is accessible by ferry from Athens.  There is no airport.
