Switzerland - Three Reasons to Visit:

July 26, 2023 | Featured Destinations

You know about the Alps and the chocolate, but here are three more reasons to visit Switzerland:

  • Wine
    • While most people don’t associate Switzerland with wine, it really should be and here is why:
      • Lavaux’s Terraced Vineyards, located on the north shore of Lake Geneva, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its century-old method of cultivating wine on hillsides using terraces.
      • You can explore almost 2,000 acres of vineyards - by train, bicycle or on foot - and visit roughly 200 different wineries, but not all at once…haha.  You can enjoy all or some of the beautiful 32 km trail along the Lake Geneva, from Lausanne-Ochy to Chillion Castle.  Here you will learn, engage and taste some wonderful wines.
      • Of course we cannot forget the food.  Switzerland offers a variety of cuisines: Swiss, French and Italian influences that won’t disappoint!
  • Unique Mountain Experiences
    • Jungfraujoch – Over a 11,000ft
      • Visit the highest train station in Europe
      • Enjoy panoramic views into Italy, France and Germany
      • Experience the Ice Palace – where even the walls and the floor are ice
    • Mt. Pilatus
      • Take in the magnificent views of Luzern from the world’s steepest cogwheel railway
      • OR if you prefer a cableway, soak in the 360 degree views from the famous Matterhorn
  • Finally, rail travel is not just for getting from Point A to Point B in Switzerland.  Rather, it is the best way to explore the Swiss Alps in style and comfort.  Two routes to consider that will take you to places that are not all accessible by car are:
    • The Bernina Express - consider taking it in the winter.  Trust me, you will not be disappointed.
    • The Glacier Express - it is one of the best routes to take in Switzerland and the upgrade to the panaromaic car is so worth it.
