2020 Travel Trends!

December 1, 2019 | Travel Tips

What are travelers seeking in 2020?  Well here are 5 trends that are sure to give you some travel inspiration:

Tasty Travels: food tourism is no longer a trend, but a full-on niche that is continuing to grow.  Many travelers today build their travels around food.  From visiting a specific destination based on a restaurant they wish to experience to immersing themselves with the locals to learn more about their culture and traditions through food e.g. visiting a family owned olive grove followed by an olive oil tasting and lunch.

Multi-Country Visits: visiting multiple countries during one trip is very hot because travelers want that mix of adventure and relaxation.  For example, spending a week in New Zealand followed by a week in Fiji covers both needs.  Another popular way of incorporating multiple destinations is combining a short city break to Cape Town followed by a safari in Kruger National Park.

Unexpected Destinations: Overtourism has become a very hot topic because it is the result of excess amounts of tourists visiting a particular destination.  For example, Maya Bay in Thailand made famous by the movie ‘The Beach' is closed to the public while it tries to restore and revive its corals.  As a result, undertourism, lesser unknown destinations, have become places more travelers seek.  For example, how about Bologna, Italy, Greenland or the island of Borneo.

Group Getaways: Not everyone wants to travel solo or just with their partner.  Some want to meet, explore and experience with a group of like-minded individuals.  Popular group getaways include women’s trips, wellness retreats and buddymoons (celebrating your honeymoon with friends).

Unique Experiences:  Travelers are no longer looking to tick off popular sites, but tap into their passions by seeing and doing things they love.  For example, scoring coveted reservations with Sushi Jiro in Tokyo, a closed-door museum tour of the Louvre in Paris or rafting the Colorado River.

As for the most popular destinations, Italy is still number one followed by Greece, France, Japan and Croatia.
