My San Diego Experience and Why You Should Go Too!

June 22, 2010 | General

With West Jet’s direct service from Calgary to San Diego, this beautiful city on the Southern coast of California is only a three hour flight away.

We stayed in the Mission Bay area of San Diego which offers a number of beachfront hotels, but more to my interest a variety of Beach Houses for rent. From small and simple with one bedroom and a grill, to large and luxurious with your own private pool.

Mission Bay is a surf town and you can spend hours walking the boardwalk and watching the locals challenge the waves. There are many oceanfront restaurants to meet every budget and some lively patios with great nightlife.

On our second day in Mission Bay we rented a couple cruiser bicycles and made our way around the entire Bay. What a great way to see a city at your own pace and relaxing too!

As many American cities do San Diego has a number of great Outlet Malls offering discounted name brand stores. We spent a day at Las Americas, the newest mall located beside the Mexican border. Great shopping, however a bit of a distance to get there. It took us an hour and a half of public transport, I would recommend a car rental.

On our final day in San Diego we visited the downtown and Gaslamp Quarter. This historical area is beautiful with architecture and offers block after block of amazing restaurants. So hard to choose!

A short walk away is Petco Park, where we finished our trip with a Major League Baseball game Padres vs. Blue Jays. What a great experience and so much fun!

There is much more this city has to offer and we could have easily extended our stay to one week.

For Families - Balboa Park and the famous San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park, Legoland, and of course Sea World one of the largest aquatic parks in the world.

For Adults -North of Mission Bay is La Jolla the famous area with picturesque cliffs and sunsets, wonderful shopping and some beautiful high end resorts and spas. There is a large naval community in San Diego and many great museums and ships to visits. And of course many great beaches to relax and soak in the sun.

San Diego is a perfect girls getaway, a fun alternative to Anaheim and Disneyland, a romantic honeymoon and a wonderful vacation!
