As an African-born company, Micato has always crafted their safaris with a deep appreciation for the continent’s sometimes overlooked joys, its varied and dramatic landscapes: snowy mountains, vast, acacia-dotted plains, lush inland deltas like the incredible Okavango, the sparkling white beaches of Zanzibar, the idyllic, bonsai-like kopjes of the Serengeti, gargantuan Victoria Falls.
If you have a sight you’d like to see and savour, Micato has the right safari for you - you can choose between three kinds of Micato safaris in East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda) and Southern Africa (Botswana, Zambia, Namibia and South Africa).

The Hemingway Wing Safari14 daysRoundtrip Nairobi
uch is Africa’s allure: that a bright fellow like Hemingway would lie in his tent, homesick before he’d even parted from a place that had come to seem more like home than home itself. We’re told these days to stick to the now, and the here, but Hemingway—like many of us lovers of Africa—knew that sometimes you can’t micromanage your passions. The Hemingway Wing Safari—a cherished favourite of Micato staff—is a tribute, not only to Africa’s tendency to grab hold of our hearts, but also to the old-fashioned and cozy safaris of Hemingway’s time, with three tented camps (a little more luxurious than in Ernest’s day, but he was never one to avoid intelligently offered luxury), good looks at East Africa’s most legendary game parks (and a couple of lesser-known gems), and five swooping flights that bring us into great intimacy with Africa’s landscapes.
Private Kenya Safari13 daysRoundtrip Nairobi
We begin in Tsavo, based in the luxurious Finch Hattons Camp, named for and inspired by Denys Finch Hatton, an aristocratic Britisher bursting with love for Africa and its stupendous sceneries and free-roaming animals. Then off-the-well-trod path to Loisaba Tented Camp, in the Loisaba Conservancy, a private enclave adjacent to the Laikipia Reserve, up on the game-rich plateau of the same name, graced with views of a volcanic peak so regal that Kenya took its name as its own (Micato’s birthplace is the only country in the world to name itself for a mountain). We finish flourishingly in Sir Richard Branson’s gem, Mahali Mzuri, a spectacular camp in the fabled Maasai Mara, the lush northern part of the Serengeti-Maasai Mara ecosytem, Earth’s greatest congeries of free-ranging animals.
Tanzania Spectacular11 nightsRoundtrip Arusha
We bow to the fact: Many of us are firmly engaged in a very busy world, a world in which time away from the busyness is precious. And so we offer this safari to three major contributors to the East African mystique: the classic game lands of Tarangire, the Ngorongoro Crater, and the fabled Serengeti—all in a mere but marvellous 10 days. Direct flights from Europe take us to the sudden serenity of the Arusha Coffee Lodge, and then we’re off on a carefully choreographed safari, with two nights in each of the three camps and lodges we’ve chosen for their warmth of spirit, their serenity, their location, their refreshing lack of busyness.
The Micato Grand Safari15 daysRoundtrip Nairobi
The grand, glamourous, unabashedly luxurious safaris favoured by princes and princesses, potentates, plutocrats, and ex-presidents (Teddy Roosevelt’s epic 1909 safari was one of the first of its sumptuous kind) are central to East Africa’s heritage as one of the world’s most desired destinations. This Grand Safari is Micato’s homage to those old and romantic days, to their indulgent and exquisite grace.
The Micato Grand Safari’s six flights make travel between game preserves and luxury camps a seamless, time-saving joy. And our stays in places like the airy Tortilis Camp in Amboseli; Bateleur or Governor’s Il Moran camps in the Maasai Mara; the charmingly luxe Four Seasons Safari Lodge in the Serengeti; and, of course, the Lewa Safari Camp on the Laikipia Plateau bring us into close and comfortable contact with some of Africa’s richest game lands and most stirring landscapes.
Jewels of Southern Africa13 daysCape Town to Johannesburg
We honour many of Africa’s jewels on our safaris, and on this wonderfully eventful, under-two-week safari we present three especially radiant gems: sparkly Cape Town, gargantuan Victoria Falls, and the classically golden savannahs and lush forests of the private Sabi Sand Game Reserve, next to Kruger National Park. We begin with four nights in Cape Town’s knockout One&Only, a resort of outsize luxury on the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront and a superb base for explorations in this most cosmopolitan of cities and its varied, magnificent environs. Then comes a splendid four nights in the bush at beautifully designed Tengile River Lodge, on a serene bend in the private Sabi Sand Game Reserve’s Sand River. We end with a perennial favourite, the famed Royal Livingstone, where mist from nearby Victoria Falls freshens our day.
