Experience a Luxury Safari with Micato Safaris

It isn’t too late to plan your adventure to Micato’s Africa or India for 2022!

Book by Aug 15, 2022

A luxury African safari is at or near the top of most travelers' wish list, but the ins and outs of actually going on a safari may seem vague. Micato’s safari specialists understand this and are adept at transforming your perhaps hazy safari dream into a brilliant, achievable reality. All of Micato's safaris are designed to highlight the variety and richness of the game-viewing experience (almost invariably including the fabled Big Five: lion, leopard, Cape buffalo, rhino, and grandly gamboling elephants), typically making a morning and afternoon game drive in comfortable, well-provisioned and expertly guided safari vehicles.

Micato’s roots are in India, and they have spent more than three decades introducing their ancestral home to travelers. The Micato theory matches seamlessly with their practice: India is a stupendous destination, fun, entrancing, friendly, and enriching, and traveling in India with them should be, and is, the same, in spades. Months, years, and decades could be spent exploring India’s 812 million richly varietal acres. But few of us have time to experience this kind of bliss indefinitely, so Micato created The Soul of India to provide a thoughtful, succinctly paced and delightful look at some of the continent’s most eye-brightening sights.

No matter where you choose to explore, you can be sure you'll be treated like a well-loved, out-of-town member of the family.

Jewels of Southern AfricaSep 25, 2022 (13 days)

Cape Town to Johannesburg
USD $24,500 Per Person Incl taxes
Bonus: $200 Safari Shop Credit!

We honour many of Africa’s jewels on our safaris, and on this wonderfully eventful, under-two-week safari we present three especially radiant gems: sparkly Cape Town, gargantuan Victoria Falls, and the classically golden savannahs and lush forests of the private Sabi Sand Game Reserve, next to Kruger National Park. We begin with four nights in Cape Town’s knockout One&Only, a resort of outsize luxury on the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront and a superb base for explorations in this most cosmopolitan of cities and its varied, magnificent environs. Then comes a splendid four nights in the bush at beautifully designed Tengile River Lodge, on a serene bend in the private Sabi Sand Game Reserve’s Sand River. We end with a perennial favourite, the famed Royal Livingstone, where mist from nearby Victoria Falls freshens our day.

Tanzania SpectacularOct 02, 2022 (9 days)

Roundtrip Arusha
USD $14,150 Per Person Incl taxes
Bonus: $200 Safari Shop Credit!

We bow to the fact: Many of us are firmly engaged in a very busy world, a world in which time away from the busyness is precious. And so we offer this safari to three major contributors to the East African mystique: the classic game lands of Tarangire, the Ngorongoro Crater, and the fabled Serengeti—all in a mere but marvellous 10 days. Direct flights from Europe take us to the sudden serenity of the Arusha Coffee Lodge, and then we’re off on a carefully choreographed safari, with two nights in each of the three camps and lodges we’ve chosen for their warmth of spirit, their serenity, their location, their refreshing lack of busyness.

African SplendourOct 15, 2022 (17 days)

Cape Town to Nairobi
USD $29,850 Per Person Incl taxes
Bonus: $200 Safari Shop Credit!

We’re not sure why, but great journeys often involve great contrasts. African Splendour is a case in point. On the full 17-day safari (the first 5 days in Southern Africa are optional), we range through 34 degrees of latitude and four countries, but, most engagingly and contrastingly, we experience the diverse excitements of Cape Town’s urban pizzazz, the watery colossus of Victoria Falls, and the wondrous game lands of the Serengeti-Maasai Mara ecosystem, where the wandering rains compel the planet’s most momentous movement of big, interesting mammals. (And then there’s the Ngorongoro Crater, which really can’t be contrasted with any other place, because there really isn’t any other place remotely like it, at least on our home planet.)

Soul of IndiaOct 19, 2022 (16 days)

Delhi to Mumbai
USD $19,150 Per Person Incl taxes
Bonus: $200 Spa Treatment Credit

We begin in Delhi, “always interesting to all mankind” as Ved Mehta quoted a taxi wallah as saying. Then we pay homage to the Taj, whose praises we sing throughout. We peacefully search for what is perhaps the most splendorous animal on earth in Ranthambore National Park, wander the glamorous Pink City of Jaipur, and witness intense spiritual devotion at Varanasi, “the most supremely potent pilgrimage site on earth.” We end in the supercity of Mumbai, a distillation of India’s incredible energy and ambition, its daily familiarity with and deep attachment to its many thousands of years of history.

The Hemingway Wing SafariDec 15, 2022 (14 days)

Roundtrip Nairobi
USD $21,400 Per Person Incl taxes
Bonus: $200 Safari Shop Credit!

Such is Africa’s allure: that a bright fellow like Hemingway would lie in his tent, homesick before he’d even parted from a place that had come to seem more like home than home itself. We’re told these days to stick to the now, and the here, but Hemingway—like many of us lovers of Africa—knew that sometimes you can’t micromanage your passions. The Hemingway Wing Safari—a cherished favorite of Micato staff—is a tribute, not only to Africa’s tendency to grab hold of our hearts, but also to the old-fashioned and cozy safaris of Hemingway’s time, with three tented camps (a little more luxurious than in Ernest’s day, but he was never one to avoid intelligently offered luxury), good looks at East Africa’s most legendary game parks (and a couple of lesser-known gems), and five swooping flights that bring us into great intimacy with Africa’s landscapes.

How does a luxury safari company amaze and excel for more than 50 years? By a cheerfully relentless dedication to service and innovation… one of the reasons why Travel+Leisure says we treat our guests like well-loved family. Those familial values inspire the many Micato Differences.
